men at Toronto, TMS event. Ladies in Stockholm and Los Angeles

WTA at Los Angeles 2:00pm

L Safarova (CZE) -152 over J Kostanic (CRO)-- Jelena appears to be in free fall. Following her good start to the yr she has gone 1-8 since Feb. ...Lucie can be a go for broke player, hopefully she's on today.

at Toronto, 7:30pm et

J Blake (USA) -6.5 games -115 over P Bester (CAN)-- 2.30u to win 2u-- crazy high games line for a best-of-3 match, but Philip simply does not belong . The kid is only 18. He's generously getting a Wild Card here being on home soil and he has drawn a top 10 player. Bester only has 4 matches on hardcourt in 06 (ATP and Challenger), including a thrashing to clay courter M Daniel 6-0,6-1. He ha never played anyone of the calibre of James. In addition, nerves may play a big role early on for him--playing on Centre court in front of family/home crowd. Blake should trash him, likely 6-2,6-2........

Safarova wins 3-6,6-4,6-1. The big hitting lefty showed a lot of heart down 3-6,1-4 to rally and win

Blake covers 6-4,6-1. Good stuff by the junior Canadian, he handled himself well

2-0

thks Presto, appreciate that.

1 play for me, a treble. WTA JPMorgan Chase, Los Angeles

Stosur TO Dementieva TO Petrova-- 1.45u to win 1u......Dementieva and Petrova are two top 10 players pitted agasint players outside the top 50. Petrova's form is in question returing from injury last week, but she played very well vs Anna and now has a match under her belt. Pasual has no weapons other than grit that can hurt Nadia. Career, Petrova leads 3-0 including a clay court beating earlier in the yr 6-3,6-0.......Schruff stunned Elena at Melbourne Park in Jan--payback time. Julia is in poor form, and struggled badly yesterday in an exhauting match vs Poutchek. I hate betting with Elena, but she likes L.A and has performed well here in the past (semi-finalist last in 2005 and 2004).......can Stevenson finally win a match vs a quality opponent? she'll get her chance Vs Stosur today. Samantha is in form.

Yesterday was a bad day for me too as trailer park trash Mattek upset Pennetta. Mattek is awful so kind of suprising to me. I avoided Petrova as the thing with Petrova is she has now lost her last 3 1st round matches. Not sure if it's her head or the injury lingers, but it's hard to bet on her because Morigami and Pascal are FAR from elite players. Good luck today. I am on Vesnina today as well.

HI Altice, didn't have a chance to reply before as I wanted to get that added Peer ML play in and had to rush out.

Petrova is indeed a mess right now. The loss to Morigami at RG, wasn't really a 'loss' per se. She pulled a groin and couldnt move on the court. Two months later and she is back. Anna served out of mind to beat Nadia last week, Petrova played well. BUT yesterday was appalling. Straights sets to a player that has NOTHING that can hurt Nadia?? no fight?? something is clearly wrong. Here's Nadia after the match;

"The problems are especially in my head," Petrova told reporters. "I feel like I'm not on the court, I am somewhere next to it. I'm trying to push myself, I try to tell myself to fight but my whole body is against it."

Anyway, a small loss for me on the day. Peer with ease over Suarez, the rest a mess.

Was at the Rexall Centre this evening. Went to the Grandstand and caught the Tursunov/Haas match at 7-5,1-2 Haas serving up a break. Tommy played very well in the second set, catching lines, goging for his shots, freeing that BEAUTIFUL one handed backhand. Dmitry picked it up in the third. Impressive. He loves to hit his backhand crosscourt. Served very well. Tommy lost his cool, destroyed a racket, dropped a f-bomb, and tossed a ball way out of the stands (lost a pt via this). He got smoked by Dmitry in the 3rd. Went to the Stadium Court to see Nadal Vs Lee. Not much to say about this, Nadal is an animal--left after the 1st set to rush to the Grandstand to see Tomas and Lleyton--got there and the match was over!!!!! Hewitt retired in the second, good grief. Went back to see the Nadal match. After that got some double action--The Beast/Jonas Vs Safin:puppy: /Tursunov. No contest, left early on this one. Marat is a character, gotta love him. Anyway, no real good info, sorry.

let see what tomm brings

Really appreciate your insights. I broke even yesterday although my top play was on Vesnina. She was up 4-1 in 1st set tiebreaker before losing the next 6 points in a row and pretty much carried over to 2nd set. Nice call on Peer. Passed on that one. Craybas was horrible pick. I wonder if the court is playing slow or it just took her a little bit to get acclimated to the hardcourts. San Diego was real good for me. So far LA hasn't been. Still a lot of tennis left to go with 3 tourneys this week. Do you typically find more value early in the week or later or is it the same?

good day yesterday, thank you Daniella:toast: .......believe Daniella, believe.......

WTA 3:00pm

S Williams (USA) 2-0 sets over M Shaughnessy (USA)--1.81 to win 1u...... very impressive comeback by Serena yesterday. Her fitness was put to the test and she delivered with a fantastic serving performance in that 3rd set. Confidence brimming as she gets more and more matches in. Meghann doesn't possess Daniella's impressive serve, so she'll get few freebes off the first serve. Meghann is averaging nearly 4 breaks on her serve this week, yet someone is still winning--will be much harder to break Serena's serve. I can't see Serena coming off to a poor start as she did yesterday--she had to play the evening seesion, and is being asked today to play the early one. I think she wants to spend minimum time on the court today and comes out focused, should dispatch her inferior compatriot in straights and a trip to the semi's........

Nice job on Hantuchova match. I had a very large play on Dementieva, my favorite player, against Peer. Revenge match for Dementieva on hardcourts. She never makes it easy though. Passing Dementieva/Mattek but after beating Schruff who she lost at the Australian Open and Peer who she lost to at the French, it could be a letdown for her especially given she would play the winner of Safina/Sharapova - both who beat her handily last time and we all know how much of a headcase she can be so maybe Lena to win 2-1 +445 or Lena to not win 2-0 +198 holds value. Was very good day overall for me too. I was surprised at how handily Ivanovic beat Groenfeld; I thought seriously about taking Groenfeld as neither players results have been that stellar and thought that match was essentially a pick 'em. Excellent call on the Nadal match. Nice to talk to someone who actually knows tennis.

thks for your thoughts!!

Nice call on Elena, I liked her too yesterday, but as you well know with her, good grief we never know--that serve be damned, lol. Elena has some of the best groundstrokes in the game.I really like Peer so I stayed away. I'll be stunned if Mattek takes a set off Elena today. Line is bloody too high tho.

Like you I was surprised with Ana's ease over ALG as well. She must be servign well. Her matchup today is a real tough one to call as Jankovic has completely turned it around adn is clearly in form. Ana has the bigger serve but Jelena has the better court coverage, movement, quicker. Should be a real good one.

Sure 'hope' Meghann doesnt ripp me again today. VAMOS SERENA:103631605

Williams had something on her mind, but it didn't look like it was tennis during the end of that first set.

Pulling for you with Acasuso. My remaining funds are riding on Sharapova tonight.
